Welcome to the new home of theroades.com!

After much deliberation, I finally decided to move our site from Joomla to WordPress. This was partly predicated on the fact that we’re piloting WordPress for our blogging platform at work. But mostly I was tired of working with Joomla. Mind you, it served me great for the past few years, but it was really more than I needed. After all, this site is essentially just a blog and a photo gallery!

So anyway, “pardon the dust” while I get WP all set up. I may not have media and whatnot right away, but I’ll try to get it sorted out before the baby comes. Speaking of which, we’re in the final count-down now: at 38 1/2 weeks, any day could be “d day” (delivery day)!

Matrix Video Redux

I had some late-night/early-morning inspiration to modify the Matrix video…I changed the soundtrack and added a scene towards the end. Which do you like better?

Oh, and the dark blue minivan in the background at the beginning of the video is our new van! Maybe I shouldn’t have lumped that in with the “boring” cars…

Bye-bye Metro…hello Matrix!

Well, my six-month experiment in public transportation ground to a halt about a month ago. After I was moved on-site with a new client I am supporting, I discovered that my new bus/train/bus route would take about 1 1/2 hrs…minimum. Considering the drive takes about 30-40 minutes, I was going to be losing a major chunk of every day.

So we had a family huddle and decided, though it’s going to stretch our budget, to get another new car. To make a long story (as) short (as I can): I was happy to settle on a Corolla, but we decided the Matrix was more “me”. No dealer had the exact car I wanted, but one was willing to offer a good deal on a certain model (the “M Theory”) that hadn’t sold. It had every bell and whistle, but came in a hideous blue and a high price tag. I didn’t want to pay for features I didn’t need and they weren’t motivated enough to come down to my ridiculous price. We left and prayed about it.

A couple days later, they called back, ready to take our offer. Whoa! I had already contacted other dealers and as they began to call me back, I told them the deal I’d gotten and they were speechless. That’s a good sign! This car is truly “tricked out” with spoilers, a chromed tailpipe, and other stuff that, at first, I felt ridiculous driving it, but now I love it.

Check out the video below for details…I’m so BLUE, baby!

Potty training…almost no more diapers!

It’s been two weeks and Z’s doing great with potty training! Despite the occasional accident, she’s doing remarkable with dry diapers most morning and after naps. It’s been such an great experience, especially since she has nearly surpassed her older sister in this respect. Not that we dare compare them (especially since R is feeling some pressure now that she sees the success of her sister.

We’re gearing up to buy boxes and boxes of diapers starting in September (please, don’t hassle us about landfills filling up…we have seriously considered our options and we’re just not prepared to go cloth right now – hey, at least we potty train early!). But at least we get some great value versus the insane expense of toddler pull-ups!
