Below is a conversation between R and Z in the car today that literally made me cry laughing. Perhaps you “had to be there,” but let me set the context. R (4) and Z (3) have had increasingly longer and more complex conversations recently. In addition, when we’re in the minivan, Z sits in the middle row with M while R sits in the third row (behind her). Hence, their interactions consist of R talking to the back of Z’s head.
I’ll start midway into their conversation in which they were comparing R’s pink Easter basket with Z’s blue one:
R: Z, why do I like pink?
Z: (intentionally ignores her question – this happens a lot)
R: Z? Z! Z, why do I like pink?!
Z: Because you do.
R: NO! That’s not why. Why do I like pink?
Z: I don’t know.
R: Because of its color!
Of course! How could we be so stupid?! Gotta love a child’s sense of rhetoric…

I love it! Giving the background and setting beforehand really made R and Z’s interaction come alive. It’s hilarious….and of coure, logical!
