Diamond Rio’s “In God We Still Trust”

This song is already over a year old, but my mom just forwarded me an email with it and it was the first time I’d heard it. The email forward includes that while Diamond Rio gets standing ovations when they play this song in concert, radio stations have declined to play it. The lyrics are included in the video, but I’ve included them below as well. A powerful song with a message desperately needed by our country right now.

Lyrics:

You place your hand on His Bible, when you swear to tell the Truth
His name is on our greatest Monuments, and all our money too,
And when we Pledge allegiance, there’s no doubt where we stand,
There is no separation, we’re one Nation under Him.

Chorus:
In God We Still Trust
Here in America
He’s the one we turn to every time
The goin’ gets rough
He is the source of all our Strength
The One who watches over us
Here in America
In God We Still Trust

Now there are those among us, who want to push Him out,
And erase His name from everything, this country’s all about,
From the Schoolhouse to the Courthouse, they’re Silencing His Word,
Now it’s time for all Believers, to make our Voices heard.

In God We Still Trust,
Here in America
He’s the one we turn to every time
The goin’ gets rough
He is the source of all our Strength
The One who watches over us
Here in America
In God We Still Trust

Here in America…

L’shanah Tovah! (or “happy new year” – wow, it’s 5768 already?)

[audio:http://nerdfeliz.com/musicas/shofar/shofar.mp3]
blowing the shofar
I wish you all a happy new year on this Rosh Hashanah. Traditionally, the Shofar (a ram’s horn) is blown in temple to herald the beginning of the 10 day “High Holy Days.” (click the play button to listen to the shofar). In the Jewish custom, take time to review where you are and to ask God to forgive you of your sins.

Congregations around the world will say after the Rosh Hashanah service: “May you be inscribed in the Book of Life!” Custom tells us that on Rosh Hashanah the destiny of all mankind is recorded by God in the Book of Life. As a follower of Christ, I know that I am written in this book. My sins are completely forgiven through Jesus’ loving sacrifice – He paid the price of his own life to inscribe me in the Book. It is therefore my fervent desire that you, dear friend, find the peace and joy that comes from knowing God personally.

Please Pray for the Cho Family

Dave and Shelby Cho are old friends of ours from back in the McLean Bible Church days. Rebecca and Dave worked together in the student ministries. In March, Dave was diagnosed with a condition that was passed to him at birth from his mother. It is common in folks of Asian Pacific descent. Unfortunately, the condition has led to a very aggressive form of liver cancer. He was on a transplant list while the doctors treated him with chemo. That didn’t work and the cancer has spread to an inoperable point. He is now at home with hospice care and is expected to live another couple of weeks.

As if this weren’t sad enough, Shelby is expecting their fifth child in June. I know, “wow.” Please pray for their entire family to continue to have the hope and peace that they currently have. They are working through how to tell the children as well as planning what the future may look like. Those of us who have been praying are still hoping for a miraculous healing in Dave, but we also realize that God in His infinite wisdom and mystery may have other plans for their family. If you’d like to learn more, visit the web site set up for them.
