Time to reevaluate my cell phone plan – I need YOUR help!

I have been with Verizon Wireless for many years now. Every two years, they send me a reminder to renew my contract. Now this is a dangerous move for Verizon: what if that’s the reminder I’m waiting for to switch cell providers? However, they sweeten the deal by giving me a coupon for a new phone (along with a contract renewal, this means I get a new phone for $50 off the new customer price).

dick tracySo every two years, I examine my cell behavior to determine my best course of action. I check out all the providers, consider pre-paid plans, and look at additional services. Currently, I figure I’m using less than 400 minutes a month, but I’ve gotten more in to text messaging recently (and I pay for every message I send or receive). I would also like to send photo and video messaging. But there are so many choices

This year, I thought it would be best to leverage all of my social networks to see what guidance I can get from my friends and family! I’m also testing a new survey service and WordPress plugin.

Please complete and submit the survey

I’d also appreciate any comments you have about the survey tool. Thanks!

Update: The WordPress plugin doesn’t seem to want to display the embedded form correctly, so I’ve included a link to the survey instead.

We Wii? Oui oui!!

YES, Christmas is exciting again! :)

I realize this post is being written waaaay after the fact (I’ve been a bad blogger this year!), the Roades family had a wonderful Christmas. We stayed home this year, opened presents from under the tree, and just enjoyed a peaceful celebration of Jesus’ birth.

Of course, this included at least one materialistic highlight when I opened a new Wii from Rebecca! Never having been much of a gamer (I really tried to figure out the 400 buttons on a modern game controller, without success…), I have been extremely interested in Nintendo’s brainchild for months. Granted, I only played it once (and that only a few weeks before Christmas), I knew I’d love playing it.

And I do! In fact, we have already logged many, many hours playing Wii Sports (the game that comes with the system). Bowling and tennis are particularly addictive, but baseball and golf are fun, too. We’re still getting the hang of boxing, but it seems to have potential. Next up: Pirates of the Caribbean and Lego Star Wars! I figure any game for which you can use a sword would be a good opportunity to see how well the Wii works. I’d like to try out Zelda, too, for the same reason.

If you’ve never had the opportunity to play a Wii, here’s your invitation: Come on over! Oh, and if you have a Wii, here’s our number so you can add ours as a friend:

Leave us a comment with your Wii number so we can add you as a friend, too!

Chuck…not as bad as I thought

chuck photoIn a previous post, I complained that Chuck was a little too campy for me. I’ve since changed my mind. In fact, House recently got mistakenly bumped on the Tivo (user error) for Chuck and I found I preferred the substitution. We’ve found ourselves really enjoying the series, with the lovable nerd main character – I relate (on some deep deep level, of course) to Chuck and his hopelessly geeky buddies.

chuck 2Much of my enjoyment comes from the snappy CIA agent/faux-girlfriend character Sarah and Casey, the perpetually grumpy NSA agent (played by Adam Baldwin). The reality that Chuck faces being forced into the life of a spy is played out with humor, but laced with the reality of having to live a secret life.

If you haven’t checked out Chuck yet, do it! In fact, you can start by watching the past few episodes online (unfortunately, they’ve taken down the first five episodes of the season).
